Job Description
We are seeking a Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs to be responsible for leading esVolta’s policy positions and relationships at FERC and NERC, at the Regional and Independent Transmission Organizations ("RTO/ISO"), on state filings, and federal trade, tax and tariff policies that impact our business. They will lead engagements with trade organizations, against utilities in dispute, and on compliance matters. The VP will procure and manage internal and external lobbyists, consultants, outside counsel, and other resources.
The VP will assist in the establishment of corporate strategies, policies and plans that align with regulations and policies in the markets where esVolta works. Additionally, the VP will identify potential policy changes or modifications that may benefit the business and communicate those to senior management to assist in developing strategy. A key function will be maintaining and nurturing relationships at regulatory bodies and industry trade groups and their staffs, associated authorities, committees, and other partner organizations. This person will have a strong understanding of esVolta’s projects and growth strategy and the battery storage industry and be a superior communicator and team player.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, RTO/ISO, and state Public Utilities Commission (PUC) policies that impact esVolta’s business and coordinate with appropriate functional groups within esVolta (Development, Commercial Operations, Finance, Asset Management, EPC) to ensure policy impacts to our business are understood and responded to
- In coordination with functional groups, lead esVolta's policy and filing priorities at FERC, NERC, the RTO/ISOs and state PUCs and other state and federal agencies, with focus on CAISO, WECC, ERCOT, MISO, and SPP
- Develop regulatory positions and strategies to promote priorities and offset potential roadblocks to development and new products
- Work with trade associations and ad hoc policy groups to further esVolta’s regulatory work
- Engage in dispute resolution with regulated counterparties to reduce costs or increase project revenues
- Hire and manage regulatory consultants, lobbyists, or outside counsel to assist policy priorities
- Manage regulatory and government budget
- Coordinate policy priorities, relationship management and communications with esVolta’s leadership team.
- Develop and advise implementation of compliance with all laws and regulations for subject matter experts throughout project life cycle
- Manage Director of Regulatory Affairs, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, and Director of Compliance
Skills And Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience in the energy sector with a preference for renewable energy or energy storage experience
- Strong experience and proven skills in understanding the regulatory process at state, RTO/ISOs, NERC and FERC and/or with federal trade issues
- Exceptional analytical skills in understanding policy impacts to energy development and pricing
- Communication skills: ability to develop and deliver concise powerful messages verbally, in writing and in presentations to all types of audiences
- Unwavering ethics and strong moral compass in all efforts

- Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Self-starter that can excel in situations with ambiguity and evolving mandates

Compensation And Benefits
The actual salary and bonus offered will depend on the specific skills and experience of the selected candidate.Salary: $250,000Bonus: 30%

Location
This position is classified as remote; however, periodic travel to company offices, project sites, or other meeting locations may be required on an as-needed basis.
