Summary/Objective
The Safety Manager provides safety leadership, ensures company operational policy compliance and enforcement of safety regulations & standards for significant high-risk activities ensuring that best safety practices are implemented. Develops and Implements safety directives to improve the overall safety performance of the company and helps align safety policies and procedures with regulations. This position supports operations departments and subcontractors.
Essential Functions
- Support NextEdge’s safety program with NextEdge Operational Companies (OpCos) and subcontractors.
- Perform and manages safety audits in the field and facilities, including equipment, vehicle, and PPE inspections.
- Develop and support creation of a strategy of safety and compliance strategic goals.
- Ensure management has the appropriate activity-based goals for the leadership team, managers, and supervisors, to drive the safety culture, compliance, and results.
- Supervise, lead, and mentor company-wide safety and compliance.
- Develop effective safety and compliance programs and policies designed to meet operational goals to reduce injuries and incidents.
- Communicate safety and compliance strategy and objectives to leadership.
- Support management in the implementation of safety and compliance programs or policies.
- Design and implement effective metrics to track progress, proactively identify areas of concern, and drive accountability.

- Liaise with external vendors to manage hazardous waste hotline, SDS system, waste collection, and disposal program, as required.
- Develop and implement audit tracks and identify gaps in local compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures.
- Lead, direct or support incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans.
- Investigate and report company related incidents (injury, property, vehicle, crimes, etc.) in a timely manner for NextEdge HR and Legal departments.
- Facilitate supervisor and management training on root cause analysis.
- Assist site management in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Monitor, interpret and communicate regulatory changes to management.
- Display strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and analytical skills.
- Demonstrate professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader.
- Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work process risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.
- Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives and necessary changes.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
- Continually encourage and promote Safety initiatives aimed at influencing positive safety behavior on all projects.
- Attend Safety department and management meetings, training workshops, and daily activity briefings.
- Provide guidance and additional safety training related to incidents and safety audit corrective actions.
- Conduct weekly team meetings with emphasis on safety and continuous improvement.
- Foster and manage positive relationships with customers and stakeholders for all projects and scopes of work.

Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of underground machines such as trencher, mini-ex, and directional bore.
- Knowledge of city codes for underground work such as permits, restoration, traffic control.
- Ability to use a personal computer and software applications to include Microsoft Office.
- Ability to be trained as an instructor for specific safety training courses Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate others.
- Extensive experience in contractor communications, and liaising with design teams, and other project professionals
- Advanced experience within the communication construction space required
- Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for projects plans.
- Ability to think strategically and provide strong leadership.
- Strong knowledge of applicable regulations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Sets goals for performance and deadlines in ways the comply with company and clients plans and vision.
- Trains new staff in the department.
- Organizes/oversees workflow and ensuring that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
- Monitors employee productivity and providing constructive feedback and coaching. Provides timely performance evaluations.
- Partners with HR/Legal to address performance issues of employees in accordance with company policy.
Work Environment
- Able to work in all non-climate-controlled environment and all-weather conditions except for unsafe or extreme weather conditions.
- Office environment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to lift loads up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb poles with proper equipment (safety belt, strap, climbers, etc.).
- Ability to use bucket truck.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Travel
- Travel as required, over 50% throughout the US
Required Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or ten years’ experience in a construction safety related role.
- Five (5) years related supervisory experience in a safety role.
- Working knowledge of the construction and/or telecommunications/electrical/gas industry.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- OSHA 500 Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 10 and 30 Certifications.
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) Certifications, such as ASP or CSP.
- Instructor Certified of High Angle Climbing, Rescue, and Rigging
- Instructor Certified of First Aid/CPR
- Possess and maintain a clear MVR and valid Drivers License.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
- Ability to pass a 7 year background check to obtain and maintain Erail, TWIC, DoE or DoD clearance.
